Mosquito AAA Cougars fight for a Provincials banner
The 11u Mosquito AAA Cougars played a series of strong games this weekend in Cloverdale in a fight for a provincials banner.
The tournament started with a show down between the Cougars and North Shore. This was the same team they played to end the regular season not one week prior. The Cougars came out swinging and when the dust settled the Cougars cane out victorious with a 15-13 win. They followed that up with a game against Prince George. This one was a slug fest for the Cougars and they finished of the Knights 12-4.
On day two it started out against Victoria. The Cougars got on the bats fast and often. Final was 14-10 after trailing 7-5 at the top of 6. Scoring 9 runs in the open inning the Cougars launched 3 of their 5 dingers in that inning. They finished the round robin with a game against Ladner and this one was a back and forth afare with the Cougars ending it at 17-16.
The only team to go 4-0 in the round robin the Cougars looked good going into the playoffs. Unfortunately they only looked going in. The First game was against a strong White Rock team and they got on top of the Cougars and didn’t let up. The Cougars fell 19-6 and solidified a spot in the bronze medal game. This was going to be a repeat of the Ladner game. Unfortunately the Cougars had nothing left in their tanks and fell 7-3.
The boys had a fantastic weekend and it will be one they won’t soon forget. The future looks good for Chilliwack Cougars baseball with this squad moving up through the system.
